We will watch a short 20 minute video in class on Friday, March 27.  This video was a presentation given by Kevin Kelly, editor of Wired magazine, during the TED conference in 2007.  After watching this video I would like you to think about anything we may have discussed in class or something we watched in class such as the Microsoft Office Envisioning video that makes a connection to any of the ideas Kelly mentions in his presentation.  Please answer the following questions in essay format to be submitted to turnitin.com by Friday, April 6.  The paper is designed to be a three page minimum.   This will count toward a test grade.

  • Summarize the video and its major points.
  • Explain the sociological impact of this future Web.
  • How could future trends effect business and education.
  • Legally, how can the new Web cause potential risks to our privacy.  Are we prone to give up freedoms for accessibility?

Anatomy of a Web Page

Please read the following article.  Then answer the following question and submit your answer to turnitin.com.  You must also prepare a site sketch for our current genocide and holocaust awareness web site.  This article should provide you with the general guidelines and conventions for most web sites that you will need to incorporate into your sketch. I will be going over one of my own sketches in class when we return.

  1. The development of a logo is essential to a web site's recognition.   Please come up with a description of how you think a holocaust or genocide logo/site id may look like for this project.  Try to include graphics that reflect the topic into its design.
  2. Web sites are broken into content promos and feature promos.  Content promos are usually the headline story or the main story of the page and my not change for hours or days.  Feature promos are places on a web site that you want to attract uses to but may not be so easy to find.  Develop both content and feature promos for our web site project.  You do not have to come up with the content itself but you will need to describe what type of content will go there.
  3. Establishing a color theme is vital in designing a web site.  Describe what colors you would use for this page for text, background, and for images.

What's Your Motivation Part II

As we enter the fourth marking period I would like to come back to an old blog assignment.  This time please read Phase II:Maintenance.  Answer the following questions in about one page.  Please submit your work to turnitin.com.

1.    What recent class activity is similar to some of the things mentioned in second phase of motivation?  What is the connection between the article and the activity?

2.    Would you consider yourself as someone who holds on to everything?  In relation to the article how can this later help us?  Being honest, why do you go back to these things?

3.    In terms of stimulation of ideas, would you consider yourself internal or external?  Give an example of such a situation.

4.    Finally, I mentioned in class that I personally love a challenge and often succeed very well in those types of situations.  Looking into your own future (college), do you see any normal everyday problems becoming challenges?  What will be missing in the future that you have now that makes it so challenging. (IE. If I moved out I would not be able to cook because I depended on my mother for that). Name and explain at least three.
